At UNUM, we’re always looking ahead. So, each month we’ll deliver a list of events, holidays, and must-knows along with hashtags and post ideas to keep your social media feeds fresh for the month ahead.
Welcome to the June edition.
June highlights include Pride Month, Marilyn Monroe's Birthday, and Best Friends Day just to name a few. Not sure how to incorporate them into your social media strategy? We’ll show you!
Pride month
During June, plan a pride campaign to spread awareness and visibility of LBGTAQI+ rights on all of your social media channels—create 30 days of highly shareable posts and fill your feed with quotes from LGBT activists, celebrities, influencers, and historians.
Social media platforms will also get involved with features to help users and brands design posts tailored to Pride month. Facebook will offer a profile pic rainbow frame along with a prompt to promote it. FB Messenger will have Pride-themed stickers, frames, and effects available in the camera. And expect IG to have rainbow stickers, filters, and effects.

Marilyn Monroe’s Birthday
June 1
Norma Jeane Baker, the movie star icon who was born on June 1st, 1926 made a distinctive mark on American pop culture. Check out the official Marilyn Monroe Instagram account for inspiration and quotes. Beauty brands, makeup artists, stylists, photographers, visual artists, and performers would do well to create Marilyn-themed photo or video posts on Instagram or TikTok—recreate her look, or pay homage to her journey and achievements.
TikTok, among other social media platforms, has Marilyn Monroe filters. You can begin posting before June 1st since all things Marilyn Monroe are now trending after Kim Kardashian wore her dress at the Met Gala.

National Donut Day
June 3
Depite Dunkin’ taking “Donuts” out of the name for a rebrand, donuts have become more popular than ever. Restauranteurs can add special items to their menu and attract buzz with irresistible images on IG. Bakers can use their decorating skills to for visually appealing shareable posts.
But, you don’t have to be a restaurant or baker to post on Donut Day. Small businesses or department heads can buy their staff a box of Krispy Kremes and show your followers what a marketing meeting looks like behind-the-scenes with fun Stories or Reels.

National Cheese Day
June 4
Did you know that cheese is a living food? Just like wine, there is a lot to know about cheese varieties, cultivation, and texture/flavor. If you are in the food industry make this a teachable moment with a carousel post on cheese types from around the world.
Influencers or teams can have a happy hour with cheese and wine pairings for Stories or Reels that show the personality of your brand and the people behind it. Remember, short-form video does not need to be perfect or professionally produced.

Best Friends Day
June 8
Create posts that entice followers to tag their besties. Ecommerce brands should begin promoting their Etsy shop, Instagram shop, or Pinterest shop a couple of weeks in advance to promote products for gift-giving. Subscription-based brands can hop on referrals by offering rewards and discounts to best friends.
And most of all creators can make relatable TikTok videos with fun challenges like “who’s more likely to…”

Nature Photography Day
June 15
North American Nature Association hosts this holiday, “to promote the enjoyment of nature photography, and to explain how images are used to advance the cause of conservation and protect plants, wildlife, and landscapes both locally and globally.”
Brands focused on the environment or associated with nature and the outdoors can create a longer campaign by collabing with a nature photographer to post a series of beautiful images to fill your feed.

Tupac’s Birthday
June 16
Considered one of the most influential rappers of all time, Tupac Shakur was born on June 16th, 1971, and died on September 13th, 1996. His lyrics addressed racial inequality and inner city social issues.
If you are a creator or brand with justice as one of your core values, consider putting this day on your content calendar as a form of social media activism—a message regarding a food desert, medical care disparities, or the over incarceration of minorities are a few content ideas.

Juneteenth
June 19
Considered the country's "second Independence Day," Juneteenth has been observed by African American communities for more than 150 years, celebrating the freedom of enslaved people in the United States at the end of the Civil War.
Be an ally! Prove that you stand for equal rights today (and every day) by keeping social media posts focused on supporting black voices and black-owned businesses, so they are visibly included in your activism.

Father’s Day
June 19
Don’t just post on Father’s Day, make it a part of your social media marketing campaign with a series of dad jokes that reflect the personality of your brand. Tangential to Father’s Day is men’s health, especially emotional and mental well-being, so any short-form videos with self-care tips or awareness lessons are great.
Start getting those pins up! E-commerce brands can promote gifts through product teasers on IG Stories or FB or IG Reels and link back to their Pinterest gallery or Etsy page via linkinbio.

Creators can show off their yoga skills with photos or footage of yoga in public places. We can't help but be inspired byTao Porchon-Lynch (1918-2020), the oldest yoga teacher in the world who lived to be 101 years old.
National Selfie Day
June 21
The big trend with selfies right now is prompting people to take a picture/video right now, no filter—of course, you should set the example so you give what you get. For educational content, teach your followers how to take proper selfies (lighting, angle, facial expressions).
