b.r.e.t.t.y | Meet the Insta

Today we're spotlighting one of our incredibly talented brand ambassadors, Brett Johnson – the man with a message. When it comes to design aesthetic, we see eye to eye. His talent radiates throughout his Instagram feed (@b.r.e.t.t.y), where can really feel the energy and complexity and uniqueness that is Brett. I mean, he low-key kills it and we’re beyond stoked he’s a part of the UNUM family.

Now, let’s get to know the gifted actor and photographer.

Brett, at what age did you start acting?

I started acting when I was three years old. My mother was also involved in the entertainment industry so she took me to audition for my first agency at three.

At what point did you know you wanted to pursue your passion?

I realized I wanted and needed to actively pursue my passion about a year ago when I went off to college. I was at a place in my life where I didn’t have my manager or my mother so I really had to make things happen on my own.

Can you cry on the spot? We heard that is one of the hardest parts of acting.

I can cry on cue if I am well hydrated. Therefore, I always drink plenty of water. I think every actor has their own strong points, I happen to find dramatic or intense roles easier to portray.

You have a strong photo tiling vision. can you share some of the keys to tiling with your fans?

Well thank you! Whenever I choose an image to spread through tiling I always find the clearest, most interesting shot in my gallery. For most of my tiling work I imagine my viewers are looking out of my metaphorical digital window onto whatever location or scene I am establishing. Through tiling, your viewers should be able to enter the image you're posting in a bigger and more intense way! Also, when tiling, do not worry about how each individual post comes across.

What instagram accounts are you inspired by – your style is so good! we need to know! haha

I love so many different blogs and Instagramers but I’m going to try and give you my top five. Here we go!
I like @anwarhadid because his style has the same punk teenage boy vibe mine does. @jordenkeith is a crazy talented modern photographer. I study his work and find it easier to get great shots because I already know what I’m looking for in a way. I have followed @amandasteele for a while now and it’s so great to see how much her own personal style and success has grown. @luckybsmith also has a punk teenage boy thing going. And last but absolutely not least is @thehautepursuit who teaches me all about blog aesthetics.

You have an all expenses paid weekend to go and do anything, where would you go and what would you do?

If I had my druthers I would spend a couple weeks in southern Thailand, probably Phuket, and tour all the beaches, valleys, villages, and temples. They have the best luxury beach resorts, in my opinion. It would be so peaceful and beautiful, not to mention I would leave with thousands of great photos! On the way back to the U.S. I would spend a day or two in London.

What’s your favorite fashion brand?

My favorite fashion brand is Alexander Wang. I think their collections are so versatile. What I mean is I would wear an AW suit just as quickly as I would an AW denim outfit. Wang himself is really in touch with my generation and modern style.

What do you do for fun?

For fun I go on adventures with friends, shop, and plan the interior design of my first house.

If you could check off one item from your bucket list right now, what would it be?

I would definitely check off the box for being on the cover of VOGUEmen. (*currently this publication does not exist, but it will).

Who's your celebrity crush?

My ideal guy would maybe be Troye Sivan. (My ideal girl would probably be Bella Hadid, if I were heterosexual lol)

Are you a good cook? if yes, what’s your forté?

Well in general, starting out I’m ok at everything. It’s kind of a skill in itself. But yes, I am a good cook when I have a recipe. My favorite dish to prepare is baked breaded chicken breasts, oven roasted potatoes, and seasoned stream beans; a bottle of Fre Moscato, cheesecake for dessert.

How many languages do you speak?

Fluent in English and proficient in French. I’m just beginning Hindi.

What’s one piece of life advice you can give to your fans?

Place your confidence and trust in the Lord. He’ll never let you down, even if you think he has. Call on him for discernment and strength in life.

If you could act in any movie, what movie and what character?

If I could be cast in a lead role I would want to play Wade Watts in the upcoming Ready Player One movie. One, because I auditioned for the film. Two, Spielberg is directing. Three, it was such a great book and I’m really into the story.

You’ve traveled quite a bit, which place was your favorite?

My favorite place that I’ve been is either southern California or Vancouver, Canada. But I have so much more traveling to do!

Where would you want to live in 5 years?

In five years I will be 24 years old and I hope to live around Los Angeles, CA.

Do any sports? If yes, what and for how long?

Nothing habitually, but I love to run.

Who is your favorite actor/actress?

My favorite actor is Will Smith. My favorite Actress is Rosamund Pike.

What’s your favorite line from any movie?

“What? I don’t hate you……I don’t particularly like you but”-Rosalie Hale

Anything else you want us to know?

I wish to be a positive role model for anyone. While I am just as scared and insecure as any other teenager I don’t let that stop me. I learn everyday because there is no time to waste. I want to be extraordinary. I don’t know how yet, but I trust that I will.
